SNAG SOME FENTY BEAUTY PRODUCTS I SWEAR BY

WHAT IS FENTY SKIN?

When Rihanna launched her Fenty Beauty line in September 2017, the world (at least the makeup world) went into a frenzy. Her release of forty shades of foundation (the line now has fifty shades) sparked a fire of conversations centered around inclusivity. Recently, on July 31, 2020, Rihanna re-sparked the inclusivity conversation with her launch of Fenty Skin, a skincare line designed for men and women. And, y’all already know, I had to try out the products.

Rihanna’s release of Fenty Skin came at the right time for me; I had been longing to revamp my skincare routine, and the next thing I saw was an Instagram post announcing her skincare line in the works. So, I did what any reasonable person would, I signed up for early access to the products and began lining up my coins to purchase them.

Fenty Skin currently has three products, although, I am certain Rihanna will expand the line in the near future. First, there is the Total Cleans’R, which is supposed to be used as any other face wash/cleanser intended for removing facial impurities. Plus, it can be used to remove makeup too. Then, my favorite, Fat Water, which is a 2-in-1 toner and serum. And finally, the Hydra Visor Invisible Moisturizer; it is a moisturizer that also contains SPF 30 sunscreen.

Individually, all three products are pretty pricey by themselves, the Total Cleans’R is $25, the Fat Water is $28, and the Hydra Visor Invisible Moisturizer is $35. If you were to buy all three products separately, it would cost you $88.  However, you can buy a bundle of all three products that would save you $13, which is what I bought, the Fenty Skin Start’rs.

WHAT THE NEGATIVES WERE

My shipment of Fenty Skin came in the mail last Monday, and thank God I signed up for early access because they are currently out of stock of Fenty Skin Start’rs

Anyway, my impression of the products first started with the packaging. I did not like it; the promotional Instagram pictures sold an avatar appeal where if I purchased the products, I would also be receiving entrance to a lavish lifestyle. And when I opened the box, that was not the vibe I initially was presented with. The box contained a two-color background of foamy light purple and light pink with graffiti words of Fenty Skin Beauty intentionally ordered haphazardly. I included a picture of the inside of the box so you will have a better idea of what I am referring to. Yes, I know I am being a little bit harsh on the packaging, but I did spend $75 on it; so, I believe I am entitled to expecting more from even something as simple as the packaging.

Moving on into the actual products, the only disappointment I had was with the moisturizer. It appears as if the moisturizer is a big bottle, but it is actually a squirter bottle inside a case. So, there was less moisturizer than I expected. But those are the two only complaints I have towards Fenty Skin.

WHAT THE POSITIVES WERE

I thought I was going to like the moisturizer the most because that was the prime reason I wanted to develop a solid skincare routine, but the Fat Water… Firstly, a name like Fat Water should have initially registered in my mind that it only deserves praise and appreciation, but it did after a couple uses. Plus, generally two squirts/drops of Fat Water should be enough for one’s face because it does spread around a lot. So, Fat Water will most likely take you a long time to finish = money saved.

Furthermore, the Total Cleans’R does its job, nothing more, nothing less. Although, it is unfair to compare the products of Fenty Skin when Fat Water is outshining them in my heart. I do not think the cleanser has any acne-fighting ingredients, so it is really just a simple cleanser and good base for the following procedures. Like, the moisturizer.

The Hydra Visor Invisible Moisturizer’s packaging may have been deceiving, but its effect is substantial, at least on my skin. I have been using the products for a little over a week, yet my skin has become softer due to it. Fat Water and the Hydra Visor Invisible Moisturizer are such a great combo, and if you do not want to buy all the products, I would recommend just those two. Not because the cleanser is not good, because it does work, I just do not think it is as irreplaceable as Fat Water and the moisturizer.

The Hydra Visor Invisible Moisturizer applies on your skin initially as pink because of Rihanna’s use of Barbados cherries in the formula, but it oxidizes quickly and combines evenly with your skin tone. Additionally, it can remove a step of your facial skincare routine since it does have SPF 30 sunscreen included within the formula if you do not wish to add additional sunscreen.

DID MY SKIN HAVE ANY RESULTS?

Yes, it did! However, my skin is a normal/combination type, and I have not really experienced acne-related issues before, so I can not speak for everyone. Plus, my skin is not sensitive, which may be an issue if your skin is, since it has fragrance in it. My results stayed true to what the promotion claimed the products would do: my skin brightened, it reduced dark spots, my skin softened, and it has yet to cause acne for me. So, I think it is safe to continue using the products.

I am really happy my skin did not have adverse effects because I liked knowing I would be supporting Rihanna instead of some other company that is probably going to have some scandal in the near future. I am not saying Rihanna should be immune to criticism, but her actions demonstrate a different story than some companies. Fenty Skin does accept returns within six months of purchase, so do not feel discouraged in trying it out and your skin not reacting well to it.

ANY FEEDBACK?

Yes. If you are looking for a comprehensive skincare routine, I would not purchase from Fenty Skin because you are probably looking for a product that tackles a certain issue. Referring back to my experience, my skin is normal/combination, so it is not easily upset when I try out new products. So, I think Fenty Skin is currently catering to the general population, but I would not be surprised if they said tomorrow they were launching products for sensitive, dry, oily, etc. skin. Overall, I was happy with my results. If you buy the products, let me know what your results were in the comments, through my Instagram and Twitter pages, or both! Also, snag some Fenty Beauty Products for yourself. I own the products linked and promise it is just as good, if not better than what the promotions said. #CommissionsEarned
